I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with the FM586 motherboard, and the Q6600 CPU. I want to upgrade
the CPU if possible, but I'm not sure what CPUs would work on this motherboard. In addition, I am also upgrading the power supply. I have the latest bios on this system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

looks like thats the best you can do with that motherboard from dell. That motherboards chipset does support the 1333 FSB but dell limits the bios so unless they have an update for the CPU in that bios most likely you wont be able to upgrade to anything better. The q6600 is still a very good processor if i were you id upgrade the motherboard so you can over clock it. On average those Q6600 can hit around 3 ghz without much trouble and can go higher with the rite cooling.

Then a dual-core with the same FSB should work?

A new or used Q6600 is more than a motherboard. And if I change the motherboard I have to buy a new Windows 7 program.

Hard to believe this motherboard won't accept an FSB of 1333.

Good point. Ubuntu and Fedora are free along with other open source operating systems. Or if you are a student you can get windows 7 for less than $40 i think.

Alternatively, check craigslist for a used mobo with the same socket as the q6600. This might be the way to go especially if you aren't in a hurry.

Hmmmm. I just installed an E8500 chip on this board with an FSB of 1333. Booted up and flies like a champ.
So much for advice in this forum.

Making a contradiction can be just as effective without the slam on the forum. Whatever gain you received to your ego was just offset by the lack of modesty in your comment. Your choice of words is contrary to your name. Be nice.

I tried an E8600 chip fsb 1333 on this board it did not work seems to be some differences . An E6850 does work it may also have something to do with core architecture 45m for wolfdale or 65m for Intel .
