Dell Inspiron 530 CPU

I have this dell inspiron 530 with a core 2 duo E4400 @ 2ghz. I was planning to upgrade it to a core 2 quad Q8200 @ 2.3ghz. I put it in correctly but it will not start up and it does not create the beep sound for POST. Can anyone help me out?? Thanks

Did you contact Dell to see if that CPU is supported on your PC?
It is very highly doubtful you can go from a dual to a quad core, and especially from a 65nm to 45nm processor on a Dell. Most boards out there would require a BIOS change at the very least to make this upgrade work. You might as well put your old processor back in, and be happy.

There wer two motherboards in the Dell Inspiron 530 the G33M02 which supports up to Core 2 Duo processors and the DG33M03 which supports which supports up to Core 2 Quad processors. Inspiron 530 systems sold with Pentium D or Core 2 Duo processors can not be upgraded to Core 2 Quad processors without adding at least a 350W power supply and swapping motherboards to the DG33M03 motherboard. Which one do you have. Check the label on the motherboard. The motherboard is a micro ATX board. It may not be cost effective to replace both. The Q6600 may have been a btter choice since it is a 65nm processor.

I know this is pretty late but, i know the answer to ur question and its really simple.
Your previous CPU, the E4400... it runs a bus speed of 200Mhz "800Mhz FSB" so that is what you're motherboard probably only supports.
A Q8200 quad core runs at a 333Mhz bus speed "1333Mhz FSB" and there for even tho the socket is the same, the frequencies are not compatible. Make sure u check the FSB ratings next time
