Dell inspiron 600m blue screen

My Inspiron is about 8 years old. About a week ago I started getting the BSOD. At first once or twice a day, gradually increasing in frequency. The only way I could clear it was to pull the power and take out the battery and start over. Yesterday it happened about five times and the last time I tried to start it, it went to a grey screen. It asked if I wanted to start it in safe mode, last known good configuration or normally. I have tried multiple times in each. When I try starting it normally, a timer ticks down to 0 indicating it's ready to boot up but nothing. It just stares at me as I stare back. Any suggestions?

Boot from Windows CD & repair the OS.

Thanks for the advice. We got it working but I'm still getting the blue screen on occassion. Time for a new laptop I suppose.
