I have a Dell Inspiron 660 and it is not the small version. I already have an EVGA GTX 750 Ti SC in it, with a stock 300W PSU, and it runs it without any problems. I was wondering if I am able to upgrade my i3 processor and upgrade it so it can handle more demanding software. I am new to building and am not sure if you could change the Intel motherboard with the CPU and change it, I am looking at an AMD FX 8350 with 8 cores, and has 4.0 GHz. Is it possible to upgrade to this? And if it is possible, what motherboard would be the best with it? The last thing would be figuring out if the wiring on the inside is compatible with the new motherboard, and PSU.

Thanks

Yes that power supply should be ok as long as you don't over clock the Graphics Card or CPU.

I highly recommend using PC Parts Picker site as it will ensure your parts are compatible. This is the way I would go but I tend to spend more money than most...

I think the EVGA 550 G2 would be a better choice unless you are planning on getting a better graphics card in the future.

With that rig that PSU should be fine. What kind of budget do you have? There are better power supplies than the 500w Corsair and you might want to get something that is at least 80+ Bronze but it depends on how much you are willing to spend.

I looked up a Corsair CX500 and it is around $70, which is in my range for a PSU, but I have a question. Would I be able to use the AMD FX 8350 if I got a new motherboard? Or can I only stick with Intel?
