I'm using a 256 GB SSD as the only drive ... should be plenty for a typical home user, and blazing fast access for everything he's doing.

You could swap in a 500 GB mechanical drive for about $70 less

Fast single thread processor. So it will fell very fast browsing, etc.

Enough threads to burn thru photo editing.

Plenty of disk space. Good enough graphics for anything flash.

Aside: if you can build a system then consider a manufacture refurb. Google Dell Outlet, HP outlet, etc. You'll save $200 on a $500 system. The only thing you lose is the warranty goes to 30 or 90 days, so when it fails its up to you to debug and fix. ex: I got my mom this touchscreen: Gateway ZX4971 Celeron 2.40GHz 4GB 500GB DVDRW 21.5" Touchscreen $214 Order Shipped 7/25/2012 12:55:00 PM for $250 w/shipping. Is a G530 based system. You can pickup an i3 based system for less than $300.

aside2: consider a $15 copy of win8 upgrade with your PC. Not sure you'd ever use it, but win8 should be around for 3-5 years and the upgrade works for xp.

aside3: your build picked much higher quality parts than the Dell system. For example, good cheap H61 MB is $45 not $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157315 Good PSU is $40 Antec vp-450, Keep the nice case, That drops your build to $450.. (without mouse, keyboard)

Thanks I have a lot of stuff currently close to 500gb as I have kept every movie I have ever downloaded, but putting an SSD on is certainly worth considering

Don't know anything about mobos so maybe an example of info on h61 would help me.

Is the mobo important if I want to add a GPU at some point? What is the cheapest that could handle a video card?

H61 is the bottom end motherboard for socket 1155. it'll take one video card just fine
