Has anyone checked out the Dell Inspiron 8000, yet? I'm especially curious about how the graphics compare to the Toshiba Satellite. They both have the GeForce 2 Go chip, but the Dell uses 32 megs of ram for their video versus Toshiba's 16 megs. I'm also curious as to the quality of sound produced by the harmon/kardon speakers in the Dell model.

My bet is the dell will be better than the toshiba. The sound coming out of the harman/kardon's should be pretty good. My HK3270 reciever from them is awesome!! The make very good stuff. The dell will be better for games being it has 32mb over the 16mb.

The Dell i8000 comes with a 16MB ATI mobility M4 chipset standard, but you can upgrade to either a 16MB, or 32MB Nvidia Geforce 2 Go chipset. I'm ordering one this week!
It was tough to decide between the Toshibe S303 (I think that's the one) and the Dell i8000. I looked at some Toshiba models that are similar to the S303 at Best Buy and the speakers seemed prone to distortion, and I don't really like the eraser tip pointing device. I hope the H/K's are better.

I've got one, ATI M4 32meg.
AGP x4, its a good system, the internal speakers suck, however.
No bass at all, the overall quality is good, but not loud enough.
there do seem to be issues with Crucial RAM and the Geforce 2 Go in Dell laptops.
they all have their little problems, however I don't think I would have bought anything else, even in hindsight.
