Dell laptop won't start

So I have a dell insprion 15r and i used to use it on direct supply i.e no battery in laptop, now that when I turn on the laptop then display turns on and I can hear sound of fan running but it remains like that only ...nothing comes up on screen not even dell logo. Any suggestions is appreciated.

Well the laptop may actually be starting but the display isn't.

You can test it by...

1. Turn off the laptop.
2. Connect an external monitor.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

If you can see your screens on the external monitor, then the attached display (or the ribbon cable that connects it) is the issue.

If you can't see on the external monitor either, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the issue and will need replacing (this may require the motherboard be replaced).
