My Dell laptop(Latitude E7440) showed a message M1004, saying "Your system automatically powered off because it became warmer than expected".

Now it can't be turned on with battery and plugged in, because it shuts down immediately after turning on. However, it runs fine without battery, with AC power plugged in.

I changed the battery, it also shutdown immediately.

Anybody knows what is the issue here? Thanks

Thank you for your response.
Yes, it immediately shuts down whenever the battery is hooked up to the laptop.
I went to a local laptop repair shop, they have never seen this issue, and suggest to change the motherboard.

To be clear, are you saying that Windows shuts itself down, or the laptop immediately goes dead?
Are you also saying the battery needs to be unplugged from the laptop, before it will start up on AC power?

the laptop immediately goes dead after adding the battery.
yes, you are right, the battery needs to be unplugged from the laptop, before it can start up on AC power.

Sorry for my late response, I didn't see your response until now. i don't receive an email after your second reply. really sorry for that.
thanks.
Steve

Have you taken a close look at the physical connection between the battery and where it plugs into the laptop. Is there any damage or dirt preventing a proper connection?
