Dell Optiplex 320 Processor Upgrade

e6700 is the Duo Core, its an original Dell processor designed for the Dell Optiplex 320, however, I am lookng for a much greater CPU speed, instead of the 2.6 Ghz. Can I run a much faster speed, other than the e6700 Intel core2 Duo processor's 2.6.

With the Opti 320, and BIOS 1.1.12 or later, the Q6700 is the fastest CPU the board will officially support. That board will only support Conroe and Allendale family C2D's with an 800/1066FSB with the latest BIOS. A Core 2 Extreme X6800 *may* work, since it's a Conroe-EX and has a 1066FSB, but it's not worth the upgrade in my opinion to only gain 300MHz.

I really appreciate the info, gonna, try both, just need to get away from this Pentium 4, single core.

I inserted an Intel Pentium D, 3.0 Ghz, FSB 800 Ghz.

Is this confirmed that this is still the fastest cpu with optiplex 320?
