I have a Dell optiplex 390 and I got a Samsung 840 evo for Christmas. I've realized that my motherboard chipset is slowing down that drive. I have sata 2 on the motherboard plus it also lacks ahci. I was wondering if i could add a SATA PCIE card to add more speed and gain ahci. From what I can tell my PCIE slots are 2.0 and i have 2 free slots. Just want to make sure this would work. Thanks

this is one of the sata cards i had found.

Solution
Yes, that card should work with your system.

That card has a bandwidth of PCIe x1 at 5Gb/s (500MB/s), so you still will not get advertised Read/Write speeds from your SSD, but you will get SATA 3 speeds, which is anything greater than 300MB/s.
