hey i know for a fact that the intel core 2 quad qx6700 will work with the 745 based on a man that tested it and had no problems. you can perhaps even fit a better cpu in there, but be sure to update your bios to be able to support a better cpu.

Q6600 will work (Q6700 most likely as well), however cooling would be a major headache.
If you ready to go this way, check which CPU cooler you have, if it is Aluminum, you have to upgrade to Copper

i checked and the chipset is an intel q965 chipset. that chipset officially supports the c2d e6600 and the e6700. it doesnt say anything about the quad cores. my guess is that it wont really work with the quad cores (most likely wont since you have the smaller dell)

the heatsink in your dell should be a copper one, so cooling shouldnt be a problem since the older pentium D uses more energy and produce more heat than the c2d.

How about this?

Regarding heatsink - it is never hurt to check, Core2Duo was used as well with Aluminum heatsink.
