I turne on computer and immedietly get error.------ SYSTEM HALTED.

ALERT! INCOMPATIBLE CPU DETECTED.

AM I SUPPOSE TO PUT SOME CONVERSION STICKER ON IT OR WHAT??

PLEASE HELP

Solution
The motherboard most likely needs a BIOS update to make that CPU compatible -- check Dell's website for latest BIOS for your Dell PC model.
You'll need to put the original CPU back in order to update the BIOS.

If latest BIOS doesn't fix the problem then it usually means that the new CPU is not compatible with the motherboard --- just because the CPU has the same socket type as the old one doesn't necessarily mean it's compatible with that motherboard.

The Q6700 is supposed to work on the latest bios so this most likely means you still have an older version on the board. Update it and you should be good to go.
