[UPDATE]
[The issue seems to have solved itself, sort of; Pressing F1 after the alert has suddenly decided to work and continue with the boot.
I still can't get rid of the alert but the system is up and running the cpu is being cooled so i'm satisfied.

Thanks for the responses!]

- I've looked everywhere for a solution to this problem...

The CPU fan header on my Dell mobo has died, so i replaced the fan with a non-proprietary one and am using a sata power adapter to power it. But now on startup i get the cpu fan failure alert and when i "strike the F1 key to continue" it does nothing but beep at me.

I'm wondering if there is a way to bypass the alert? I've not found anything in the bios so far.
This is only my media pc and would be fairly cheap to replace but i hate the idea of motherboard becoming totally useless because of a fan header...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I had to move my 3.4A Delta GFB1212VHG fan to a molex, and I get the fan fail message. There's no way out of this. You can clear the error manually in Setup/Maintenenace/ Eventlog (or SYSLOG)/ Clear. This will get you 1, or 2 boots without the message. I just put my computer in sleep mode instead of rebooting. It starts faster, and goes back where I left off. I'm afraid Dell checks for more than an RPM signal at boot. I'm running tach and PWM from the MB, just power to 2 motor fan from molex.
I've seen reports that disabling Keyboard check in BIOS has cured this. It didn't work for me. Probably depend on how your BIOS is arranged.
Yes in the BIOS, I believe under CPU Health (All Dell Bios are different) disable the CPU fan alert. If you can not find this you can always connect the yellow cable of the CPU Fan to the header as this sends the signal to the motherboard to how fast your CPU is spinning.

If you are not comfortable with this you will need to contact Dell for any further support. You can always try this post...

May be more help.

Thank you for the response, you clearly put alot of thought into it!
Unfortunately the header itself is dead (or atleast isn't providing any power) as i tested the orignal fan with a modded extention cable and it spins up with no problem and responds to my fan control software.

As for the BIOS settings i can't find anything like you described, I'll look at the posts you linked though.

Thanks again.

Much appreciated but the fan itself is actually fine. It's the header on the mobo that is faulty.
