Hey guys and gals,

I Have a Dell optiplex PC. For a while, i had been using a AMD Radeon HD 5450 inside of it.
This was good for my secondary PC, Although it lacked the Oomph when playing games (I Know it isn't a gaming card!)
Anyways, i purchased an NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 and put it inside the PC. Now i know that the standard PSU will never support a card like that, So i plugged in a spare 400W Power supply only into the GPU.
After some slight modding to the case, the GPU finally fit in, and i started the PC up with everything connected. Nothing. The fans on the GPU and the PC was spinning.
I Tried a few times until i grew bored of seeing nothing happen, and Then proceeded to remove the GPU and put the Old HD 5450 in. Booted the PC back up, and to my suprise, the PC was not functioning with even that in. I searched the web to find a fix. Nothing. Although, when the PC is connected via the onboard graphics, it functions perfectly fine.
So i'm hoping, that with the awesome guys of TH, i can find a fix to have this PC back. I Know for sure that these GPU's are fine, and that i can reuse them, but i need a secondary PC. And i can't afford to buy new components etc.

Thanks in advance guys!

Hey,

Thanks for replying, and yep, i was. the PSU powered up and everything, but there was no video. Is there any way that the GPU could have broke the PCI-E slot? it hasn't worked since.. :L

Thanks

How old is the Dell PC? What year was it manufactured? The reason I ask, is because some early Dells used a proprietary PSU/motherboard that was wired differently from normal PCs. But your Dell would have to be quite old for that to be an issue. At least back to the Pentium/early C2D years. Here's what I am referring to:

Hi,

It isn't a normal PSU connector.. i didn't replace that. There is nothing wrong with the PSU as when i have no GPU plugged in, the PC functions normally, without any hitch. Although, i think it was 2009 When it was made. so it's fairly new. The 24- Pin on the Mobo is much smaller than the normal ones, so i couldn't replace that sadly... it i could have, i would have put a 600W in there, and it should have worked without a prob.

Thanks again for helping me with this issue.
