Hello,
I have Dell Optiplex 780 machine with 4GB DDR3 RAM, 3.0 GHz core2Duo Intel processor and 500 WD HDD. What other Hardware should I add in to make this system work smoothly for editing and animation. I do not have a separate graphic card but the mobo built in graphic card is 1GB. I need your expert advice to make my system work smoothly.
Thank you

780 optiplex has enough room for a few upgrades, do you have the 305-watt Dell power supply or 285-watt, need to check.
I assume it's the 305-watt.
what operating system are you running.?
what's your budget on spending.?

Thanks for your time.... I am having Windows 7, 64 bit operating system. 305 Wt power supply is pre-installed. Has been using Adobe CS3 Premier and After Effects in my other machine. Now Wants to upgrade to Adobe CS5 Premier and After Effects at 64 bit with this DELL 780.

I can spend like US $300. Hope I can get something within that range.

Thanks for your help

Thank you for the detailed
reply....... I appreciate your help.

Things are getting clearer to me. The only question in my mined is do I really need that Hi-Fi graphic card??? I mean, I don't game really.... I only need the system to be able to work smoothly for video editing and 3D and 2D animation work. Do you really think I should go for such graphic cards???

I agree with the idea to upgrade to Core 2 Quad. I am still not sure if the there is enough room to fit a Dual Slot card on this board. I think I will have to consult a technical person who can suggest me after having a look at the board. But I have pasted below some technical information that I have taken from the Technical Guide of the system....

Chipset: Intel Q45 Express Chipset w/ICH10DO

SYSTEM BOARD CONNECTORS
NOTE: See Detailed Engineering Specifications for maximum card dimensions.
Note: Mini Tower supports full height card

256MB ATI RADEON HD 3450 Graphics with dual DVI or VGA and S-Video Out (adapters convert to dual DVI or dual VGA) Optional card
