Dell Optiplex 990 Ram Upgrade Config

I have an Dell Optiplex 990 DT. It has 4 memory slots (2 x 2GB sticks currently running). I want to put 2 x 2gb more into the system bringing it to 8GB total (2 x 2 x 2 x 2).

The Optiplex 990 Tech guidebook says it can support up to 16 GB using 4 dimms but under memory configurations I don't see the (2x 2 x 2 x 2) configuration listed. This should work adding another 2 x 2GB in addition to what's already there right?

1| Never mix and match rams in any system. If you want a ram upgrade you must opt for populating all the ram slots by evenly distributing the maximum ram allowed across the number of slots. With the above stated, it means you can populate each slot with 4GB sticks of ram to get a cumulative ram of 16GB.

2| Speaking of ram's, what are the rams you want to populate the system with and what are the rams that you currently have within the OptiPlex?

3| Before you set about in purchasing a new 4x4GB DDR3 1333MHz 1.65v kit, you might want to make sure you're on the latest BIOS revision to ensure maximum compatibility with your new upgrade. The suggestion for not mixing and matching new rams with the old yet holds.
