Dell PC desktop for image stitching (pix4d)

I am assuming you mean US dollars.

Look at what software package you are going to run. It should have recommended hardware specification.

Is the software cost part of your budget?

Will you be running Windows or Linux?

Do you need to get a monitor mouse and Keyboard as part of the package?

What you should look for is:
1) Multiple threads so i7, Xeon or Ryzen 2 CPU
2) Enough RAM 32GB+
3) NVidia 1070 or better graphics
4) 512GB SSD
5) 2TB HDD secondary and backup storage.
6) 4K monitor

Do you want it mobile or are you OK with a desktop.

So if you have to use Dell, look for any tower model with Intel i7-8700CPU and NVidia 1070 graphics card. You will need to get RAM upgrade from 16GB to 32GB.

So the XPS tower with a RAM upgrade will meet your requirements

Their precision PCs are really way more expensive and under-gunned compared to the one above.

Bad news. IT does not allow the purchase of a home product and force me into the precision Dell with upgraded tougher components and the bill is now 6000 USD. One way around is to build the unit from scratch from either Amazon or Newegg with the caveat that I cannot get it on the network (just WIFI). I have looked around and I have chosen an AMD Ryzen threadripper 1950x as the core. Can you help me chose the rest of the components? I built PCs from 1995 until 2010. So, I am rusty but I think I can handle it. More RAM is better (min 32gb), RAID SSD 500 is a must, GPU with at least 1070/1080 but others like Quadro P4000/5000, Titan X, Tesla work too. I will add another HDD 6TB for storing the project. Thanks for your help. Oh and nothing too fancy or too shiny. A black simple case with lots of power will do. Let s keep it modest looking. Cost should be 2000-3000 USD but I cannot buy anything over 1000 at a time.

You don't need the threadripper.

A Ryzen 2700X will be more than enough and cheaper.

Stick with Nvidia 1070 as your GPU.

Get a 512GB SSD as your boot device and then a pair of 4TB hdd that you can stripe (raid 0)
Get 32GB ram.

Case and power supply to fit.
