Dell Precision 5510 Laptop

CPU: Intel Core i7-6820HQ CPU @ 2.70GHz

iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 530

dGPU: Nvidia Quadro M1000M

RAM: 16GB

SSD: 476GB

I've had my Dell Precision 5510 for only 2 weeks. In the first week it performed really well with games running 60 fps smoothly with the highest game settings. All of a sudden it was no longer performing as well and all of my applications became choppy. I ran the high performance and the ultimate performance power mode but nothing has changed. It runs the same games now at around 20-30 fps. I reset the computer a couple times hoping that this would fix the problem but it did not. I have the latest graphic drivers installed but there has been no difference. I really need help with this. Any tips or suggestions to fix my problem will be very appreciated. Thank You

The i7-6820HQ CPU was released on September 1, 2015 and I've found a review for the Precision 5510 laptop dated January 20, 2016. With a machine of this vintage, it's hardly surprising that things are starting to fail.

Assuming you bought it second hand, did the seller mention if they had inspected and cleaned the cooling fans? After 7 years they could be clogged with fluff and causing the CPU to throttle, thereby inducing choppy performance.

Equally well, it could be a RAM problem. Download and install MemTest86+ on a USB memory stick and run a complete memory test.

You could also check the Dell web pages to see if there's a BIOS update.

It's quite possible your 512GB? SSD is on its way out. Download a trial copy of Hard Disk Sentinel and see what it makes of the SMART data.

When you "reset the computer a couple of times" did this involve reinstalling or repairing Windows?

I did a local reinstall of windows 3 times and the seller did not mention any cleaning.
