I have the same issue. Not sure which direction to go with improving the disk performance.

The spec sheet for the T7610 mentions support for a Micron P320h PCIe SSD. However, I can't seem to find anyone selling this drive in the UK, which I imagine is due to it being quite an old drive (mid 2014). I wonder if there is a more recent or equivalent drive ?

From what I am reading online i'm not going to be able to use the samsung 960 pro.

I don't know if it would equal a PCIe but it should almost double the speed of what you have now. Since you already own the parts why not give it a try.
It may depend to some extent on what level of SATA you have. 2X3GB/sec. SATA2 =6GB/sec. SATA3, so SATA3 might not improve as much as SATA2 since it's already faster . You can Google various RAID SSD articles and see what they have to offer.

OK, so I already have an SSD. A Crucial M550 1TB drive but I want to increase the performance of the workstation by using PCIe.

The CPU E5-2697 and memory PC3-14900R 1866 are waiting for the hard disk. The hard disk is the bottleneck.

Its not the adaptor that I am worried about, its what hard drive to put into it, which will boot successfully in the T7610. From what I am reading, the samsungs' wont work as the use the NVMe. The likes of Samsung 960 pro and the evo.

Wouldn't the "old tech" mentioned in Paladin's post e.g. the Micron P320h PCIe SSD give me better performance than raiding a few SATA III drives?

I do have two crucial m550 1tb drives.
One is being used as second drive in a HP Elitebook, which I guess I could commandeer.
