Basically, I have got a Dell R900 server and with an SSD it performs really well, but I want to be able to do some computing tasks in it that require/prefer a GPU such as AutoCad, Photoshop, Catia, Ansys, Solidworks, etc.

So I am looking for a decent GPU (just for the sake of having one really) since the integrated one has only 32MB of RAM and even Windows 10 Workstation runs sluggishly on it.

I spoke to the guy who supplied the server and he suggested I would need an extra power supply but I am particularly interested in daemon6's comment since I do have a GTX 750ti already but I need some help with 'modifying the fan shroud a little bit'

Also, I was wondering if I can use GTX 1080 instead of 750 or perhaps, idealistically, use them both at the same time?

Solution
Any graphics card that requires supplemental power will be a problem. There is no PCIe power available that I can see from photos. Also the PCIe x8 slots may require modification to put a physical x16 card in. I can't tell if the slots have the back edge which would block an x16 card.

If you can physically install your 750ti, and it doesn't require supplemental power. Then you could get a 1050 or 1050ti that doesn't require supplemental power.

You only have four x8 slots. You won't be able to drop in an x16 GPU.

More to the point - That's a rack-mount server that's already 8 years old. In addition, it was never ment to be a client device. Most rackmount servers often contain a basic ATi or Matrox VGA chip just so you can attach a KVM to it.

If you want the equivalent of Dell server grade hardware with the ability to run a GPU, you're looking at a Dell Precision Workstation class machine.
