What companies have contracts with dell to service and install dell systems?

I think that Dell farms out at least some of its business to local authorized
service providers. There is a dealer here locally who does lots of Dell
business with one of the nearby colleges which is all-Dell.

I'd like to know what it takes to become an authorized Dell service provider.
Do I need to take a course, or can I get my degree for life experiences? I can
quickly tear apart most any Dell without looking at a service manual, because
I've done it for so long. I put them back together somewhat reasonably, too.

I also had a client bought up by a multinational company which had an all-Dell
policy. The tech who arrived to service a Dell box in bad shape was from yet
another smaller service provider.

For some of Dell's larger corporate, governmental, and institutional customers,
there may be arrangements with equally large service companies like TRW and GE
(and probably not IBM, who are huge service operation), who generally have
better logistics and manpower pool than the smaller outfits... Ben Myers

I think you're being modest, Ben. I'll bet you can put those boxes back
together very well.

At one time, Dell offered technician-level courses for people who wanted to
service Dell equipment, which lead to some sort of certification offered by
Dell. I believe these courses and the certification program still exist, but
I haven't look for them lately. To be honest, I accidentally came across the
certification program while roaming through Dell's web site and I don't
remember exactly where it was.

In any case, this certification may be required to service Dell equipment.
At the very least, that section of Dell's web site could help you get in
touch with the people who would approve you for servicing Dell equipment.

There are 3 international companies that share this contract between them
they are, 1) Getronics, 2) Unisys and 3) Banctec (who deal with most of home
user issues) they do all of Dells Warranty service calls, and in all honesty
they have it all sewn up between them

Except for companies like the one run by my professional acquaintance nearby.
Maybe he made a special deal with Dell with leverage from the college who
apparently favors his style of service... Ben Myers

There are two arrangements Dell will make with corporate customers.

CATPM (Customer Appointed Third Party Maintainer) which is country
specific. A customer can nominate a TPM to service his equipment and
handle warranty claims (for spare part replacement) on his behalf. No
service credits are paid to the maintainer. Part exchange is not in
advance.

Premier Access - similar to CATPM but available to international
(big!) customers only. I beleive this involves the payment of service
credits to the TPM per-event but that may have changed... Part
exchange is in advance.

They measure service providers to ensure they are 'qualified' to service the
product.
High end gear like SAN's - definately.
