Does Dell offer On-Site service for Inspiron laptops where the service
contract has already expired? I know I'll have to pay for it but do they
even offer on-site service after the service contract has expired?

Dell doesn't actually provide the service. Rather, it contracts with third
parties. You would have to contact the particular contractor in your area.

That said, there must be thousands of organizations large and small that
have the qualifications needed to service your laptop. And why would you
want to pay for in-home service for a laptop? They're designed to be easily
portable - that's the whole idea.

I don't belive so, but getting information from Dell is a nightmare,
so it's possible. My wife dented her cover, and upon discovering that
it wasn't a warranty repair, Dell essentially refused to accept it for
repair, though they did tell me how to order (most of) the parts to do
it myself. Of course, the first tech insisted it was a warranty
repair, even though we told him it was our fault.

You might call them and tell them you want to extend your warranty...

I know but the initial contact has to go through Dell. At least it did
when the service contract was still in effect. I've never before dealt
with trying to get service on a Dell laptop with an expired contract so I
don't even know if they do it

I want on-site service so I don't have to waste time sending the laptop
somewhere. I'd rather have someone come to my location and fix it quickly
rather than waiting days/weeks to send it somewhere.

The problem with this particular laptop (I 5000e) is a dead screen. The
laptop itself works fine and it works OK with an external monitor so I can
continue to use it in my office. I just need to get a replacement screen
(or backlight) installed.

The warranty on this laptop has been expired for a while now so there is
no way they would extend it. I wouldn't ask them to do it or expect them
to do it.

The monitor on the laptop died. I need to get a new one installed.
Everything else about the laptop is working ok. It works fine with an
external monitor. I just need a new monitor and someone to install it.

In the UK what happens is the customer contacts Dell and Dell arrange an
"out of warranty " call using exactly the same parts BUT it is very
expensive, I'ce heard stories off customers being quoted £600 for an LCD
parts and labour and £400 parts and labour for a keyboard fitted next
business day
