Hello,

I have a Dell Studio 1537 Laptop which has a (mobile?) PGA478 motherboard and a core 2 duo P8400 ( 25w TDP) installed currently.

I am looking for upgrading the CPU, i have no budget limitations and i am doing this just for fun and experimenting.
( i have another powerful desktop, so nothing to gain or lose ).

Now the question is, what are the best CPU's that can fit in there safely? I have found very little information on this laptop and supported CPU's, i'd appreciate if anyone with better knowledge can help me out.

Thank you very much!

Thanks for the fast reply, captaincharisma!

Yep, already opened up the laptop and the CPU is removable. I wouldn't have asked if i didn't know that :)

for laptops the best thing to do is look into that laptop model and see what options it had for CPU's. when it comes to brand name computers they like to lock the BIOS down

I have no idea where should i be looking for that, they certainly do not sell these anymore.

true, any info will not show up at the top of a google search so you just need to look a little deeper. here is a link about the same topic on dell's community forums of you haven't seen it yet:

Though there is one thing confusing me in that thread, He says that a 1066 MHz bus speed cpu won't work. But my current P8400 has actually 1066 MHz bus speed.

And i have my eyes on a cheap P9700, so that is supposed to work just fine, right?
