I have a OEM Dell Precision T1500 which was configured for Windows 7/32 bit. See below for more specs. I have since updated to Windows 10/32 bit. I want to migrate to 64 bit. Dell indicates they do not plan to evaluate this option for this PC. My system type does not say "X64."

  • Does this mean I would need to upgrade the motherboard?
Can I use what I have and if so, how do I confirm the drivers I need exist?
Is anyone running this system on Windows 10/64 bit?
Current system: "System type X86-based PC," 750@2.67/GHz, 2668MHz, 4 cores; 4 Gb RAM; 450Gb NTFS SATA HDD; Quadro FX 580

Solution

That is absolutely 64bit capable. And no, you do NOT need to go back to Win 7 first.

The change from 32bit to 64bit will be a full wipe and reinstall, but no Win 7 needed.

I found on Dell Forum that people have gone from Windows 7/32 to Windows 7/64, but no discussion of Windows 10. Intel site says this chipset requires 64bit bio architecture. Maybe I need to revert to Windows 7 then move to 64 bit?
