Hello, I am quite new to building and assembling computers. I received an old Dell Precision T3500 from my work. I am looking to upgrade it to make it into a video editing computer. I am looking to upgrade the processor (currently Xeon 2.26gHz) and the RAM.

I want to put an intel i5 or i7 in it but I want to make sure it will work and haven't found ANYTHING in my google searches.

Simple question: Will an i5 or i7 (4.2gHz) processor work??

Thank you!!!

Well it depends on your motherboard chipset. I just searched it up and I believe that computer has an Intel X58 chipset, which only supports Xeon processors. If you wanted to swtich to an i5 or i7, you will also need the specific motherboard compatible with the CPU.
Also I recommend i7 over i5 for video editing as the addition of hyperthreading in the i7 really helps with heavy tasks.
