Hi,

I have a T3500 and upgraded the CPU from a W3503 to a X5677. Latest A17 Bios running. The machine originally had 12GB (6x2gb) Hynix HMT325U7BFR8A (H9 1333 version) but with the X5677 I have only ever been able to get 3 x 2gb working.

As I am doing more CAD work on the machine than previously and using the latest software I am keen to at least get back to 12Gb if not upgrade to the full 24Gb. Can anyone advise if I should theroretically be able to to run all 6 of these hynix modules with the westmere processor and suggest a fix if so?

I am hesitant to buy other modules until I know it is definitely the RAM and not the CPU. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Ross

If the modules are all the same part# I'm not sure why the newer CPU wouldn't run them.
Memory speed actually improved with the Westmeres.
The older N ehalems would drop RAM speed if more than 3 RAM slots were populated. They may have been runnig at 1066, or even 800 before. With the Westemere thay all should be running at 1333. Do all of the modules work with the new CPU, But only 3 at a time? Or is there a difference in the modules them selves?
You might ask here. maybe someone else has some insight.

Thanks for your reply. All sticks are working, just 3 at a time with the x5677 - Ive tried 2 different 5677s and get the same with both, and all 6 slots work with the w3503 when I swap back. The dell has very few bios settings, so at a bit of loss without access to another 6 ram sticks. Let me know if anything else comes to mind - i'll try the forum you posted thanks.
