Hello guys,

Problem: My monitor (25" Dell U2515H) for the last few months has been misbehaving, by turning off, then on.
I started noticing the problem ~ 4 months ago when the monitor would turn off for a few seconds, then back on.
Now, it's gotten considerably worse - today it has gone off for at least a minute, before coming back on. This has happened 3x today.

I've been using the monitor since Sept.2016.

System:
Windows 10/64-bit
Cpu: Ryzen 5 3600x
Mb: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro WiFi
Gpu: Gigabyte 5700xt
16gb ram
1 tb Adata Nvme ssd
512 Corsair ssd
Psu: Evga 650w G5
Monitor: 25" Dell U2515H (2560 x 1440) (Sept.2016)
(Build, Oct.2019)

Solutions tried:
  1. Reset all settings via monitor touch screen buttons.
  2. Remove HDMI cable and am now trying to use mini-DP cable to the graphics card. ....so far holding for ~ 5 minutes. Although I don't have faith. Enabled DP1.2 in monitor settings. Do HDMI cords go wonky?
  3. Lowered brightness and contrast from 50 to 30. (not ideal but willing to try).
  4. Cursory online search has led to similar off/on scenarios with this monitor, so who knows.
Note: The GPU has 1xHdmi, 3xDP (currently running 45 degrees Celsius via GPUz 'seonsor' tab) .

------------------------

Please tell me it's monitor related and not a failing GPU, or PSU?
If it's either of those, how would I know?
------------------------
I could try borrowing a friends 1080p monitor for a couple days and see if that does anything?
Get a new HDMI cable (borrow from dvd player?) and try that?

Open to suggestions.

the PSU inside the monitor is failing. probably capacitors that are failing.

if you try another monitor you would be sure.

then if i was me, after confirming the Dell monitor is bad, i would open it, remove the internal PSU inside monitor, and check the model number of the PSU, and buy another one.
exemple
don't buy this one, you need to confirm the exact model number that goes for your country and voltage.

I repaired lots of monitors this way.
but most people would just trash it.

Thanks for a quick reply.

I will start by borrowing a monitor for a couple days to test.
I have never changed out a monitor PSU but would be willing to try if it's not rocket science.

yeah it's not difficult. case to open, screws to unsrew, cables to unplug...

check on google "how to open + name of your monitor" and you will find guides
in 5 secs i found this one. not your particular model but you can check the steps. should be fairly similar.
Just be slow in order to not damage the cable used by the front buttons (as they say in step 3)

Knock on wood - I swapped out the HDMI cable for a miniDP cable.
So far so good.

If it holds, all I can guess is that my cat had lay down behind the monitor where the cords were draped over the table and somehow damaged the HDMI pins or connector.

I have re-arranged the cables out the side of the desk to prevent that from happening again.
I can't push the monitor all the way to the back of the table because it's far to see the games lol.

ahah i didn't even thought about the cable !

good call sorry for my bad advice. all of my monitors showed PSU problems at some point so i am a bit biased. (samsung 245BW's are known for that, but it's just a couple of resistors to change on the PSU)
