I have Windows 8 RTM installed on my Dell XPS 1645. I also have an old Dell USB Optical Mouse which I have been using for as long as I can remember. I tried using this mouse for the first time since installing Windows 8 and found that it doesn't work. The device connects and is listed under devices, but doesn't work. Closer inspection says that there is no driver for Optical USB mouse and searching for one has no yielded any fruit. Plugging the mouse in a Windows 7 machine it works just fine. Any ideas?

It lit up completely normal. It is even listed as a connected device, but Windows reports it as not having a driver. Trying to fix the problem, it Windows just states again there is no driver.

If you disconnect the mouse while the system is powered on and then re-connect it, do you get the normal disconnect/connect beeps? Also, does this change the behavior at all?

Have you tried another mouse with your Win 8 system to see how it works (or not)?
