[citation][nom]mattclary[/nom]I only buy Foxconn motherboards when I am building a machine for a customer on a really tight budget.[/citation]

Until recently dell really never used AMD in their shelf products(like in best buy). Also, the dell you are mentioning is an inspiron series laptop not their studio series, so you cant really compare it. Its like take a Base model of one brand and comparing it to the highest model of another.... *shakes finger*

Also Dell actually makes some laptops with aluminum bodies check out their adamo series. They are actually pretty attractive looking laptops, I still wouldnt buy it cause its over-priced crap. Since i can get an asus or toshiba with better build quality for comparable price.

oops wrong quote lol here is the right one.....

[citation][nom]christopherknapp[/nom]Dell: Plastic Apple: Aluminum UnibodyDell: AMD Dual CoreApple: Core 2 DuoDell: ATI 3200HD (which my netbook has)Apple: NVIDIA 320M... the list goes on and on. They are comparing rotten Apples to Apple. So what, it's cheaper, just by looking at the specifications and the build quality you can tell why it is cheaper. It's called common sense.[/citation]

time to kill the stupid car analogies.. folks, they come out of the same factories. they are built by the same companies and they have the same reliability. In many cases, they have the same hardware. There is nothing special about Apples on the hardware front - hasn't been for quite some time.

Do any of the Macs come with an i7-975? That's what I am running in my custom built PC running WIN7-64bit Pro. Until I can build my own Mac (without hacks) I am sticking to PC. I'd love to run dual boot MS/MAC. Yes I know some of you all have triple boot MS/MAC/Linux.

the reason why apple laptops needs better case is because ipeople are too busy having sex with them

[citation][nom]lock51[/nom]I general it looks biased towards Dell:1. Weight and the size of the notebook, this is where Apple beats Dell. 2. Battery life on Apple is longer, with less weight and size3. Apple has a better touch-pad, then Dell. 4. Microsoft Messenger is available for Mac OS straight from Microsoft.5. Dell comes with 720p screen and not 1080p, like Apple. 1080p can be chosen as an option for 100$ more. Some items, which Dell didn't mention are an option for Blu-Ray, built-in broadband and removable battery. These are strong points of Dell.[/citation]

True that the MacBook Pro 17'' comes with a 1080p capable monitor. But if you choose to have a 1080p monitor on the Dell it adds 150$ to the price, wich is still way cheaper than what apple is offering. This becomes even more apparent that the Studio 17 comes with a Intel Core i7-720QM, the MacBook Pro 17'' comes with an i5-540M with the option to put an i7-620M that costs 200$. Even so it's still inferior because the 620M has only two cores as opposed to the four that the 720QM has. The memory of the Apple is clocked at 1033MHz and in the Dell is clocked at 1333MHz. The Dell comes with a 7200RPM hard drive while the Apple hard drive spins at 5400RPM, and costs 50$ to upgrade to a 7200RPM hard drive.

The standard battery on the Dell is inferior to the Mac, but again you can change the standard battery for a 85Whr battery (the MacBook Pro 17'' uses a 77.5 Whr battery) and still be way below the price of the Mac.

[citation][nom]bobusboy[/nom]um....FYI they don't have the same wheels, doors, engines, plugs, gaskets, transmissions etc. two totally different manufacturers, the dell is showing the exact same hardware in their product as apple.[/citation]
Then why is it the Lexus IS300 runs a 2jz 3.0 Liter inline 6 cylinder, the EXACT same engine used in a Toyota Supra? Why is it that the Supra wheels share the same bolt pattern and offset? Why is it they share the same transmission? That's like saying a Ford Explorer isn't the EXACT same thing as a Mercury Mariner.

[citation][nom]thesupermedium[/nom]A Corvette ZR1 is just as fast as a Ferrari Enzo. You can get the ZR1 for a fourth of the price, but if you can afford the enzo, and will have to spend a lot of time in the interior, then why the hell would you get the ZR1? Macs and PCs are comparable to this. I buy a PC because I can't justify spending over $1000 on a laptop or desktop unless I built it myself. However, I would love to have one, and I am always impressed by their battery life, customer service (I have an iPhone) and their interfaces. It's all just completely relative to the user, but you have to admit Apple puts it in a nicer overall package.[/citation]

Now having sat in a Enzo, and driven many a Corvette... I'd personally rather sit in the corvette. The interior of the vette sure, feels less solid, but you don't run your hands over the interior of your car constantly trying to reassure yourself you spent the money well... unless of course it's a 1.2million dollar enzo.

And I am noticing a LOT of fanboys coming out for this as well as another poster. It's pretty damn funny when the "ferrari" of computers is getting compared to the "kia" of computers.

Also anyone who says that Apple's security is comparable to a well built linux distro is out of their F'ing mind. Apple HAS viruses and malware for it. Meanwhile Linux distros are so totally ignored by comparison hackers jsut don't target them. They are truely secure from beign obscure. Mac has 10% of the market share and the owners in general (Hollywood celebs making a great example of more money than common sense, and making up about 2/3 of apples sales) are idiots that malware preys on. So... make a bit of nasty code for a PC and it gets fixed as quickly as a day, meanwhile a bit of code on an apple takes a lot longer to be discovered, so the coder can target apples and be much lazier about it as they reap the benefits.

[citation][nom]waikano[/nom]Specs are old...Latest iMacs come with i3s and 5000 series GFX.[/citation]
No they're not - you can find the exact specs under the Education Store at Apple - only problem is that Dell doesn't show the $200 discount on all the laptops (although that doesn't get Apple even close to Dell, but still)

2.66GHz i7, GT330M (512MB) on the 15"; 2.53GHz i5, GT330M (512MB) on the 17"

This comparison is typical marketing spin, every company does it.

Not comparing things like the battery, display, materials, etc. is a kin to comparing a $25k 2.4L V6 sedan to a $35k 2.4L V6 luxury sedan.
The basic specs are the same, but what's left out is what makes car buyers want to spend the $10k more.

[citation][nom]raabscuttle[/nom]time to kill the stupid car analogies.. folks, they come out of the same factories. they are built by the same companies and they have the same reliability. In many cases, they have the same hardware.[/citation]

Are you talking about cars or computers? Maybe you didn't know that the components for both industries are built by the same factories and have the same reliability?

Do you think one OEM Foxconn board is that much different from another?
Or one OEM Bilstein shock is different than another?

I most be by definition the most confused buyer class ever as I buy from Dell, Apple, MS, HP, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, Sony, Shuttle, etc I make no discrimination and I love them all the same... Or I use just what I want and can afford at a certain moment. :)

The Dell uses a 5470. The Mac uses a superior 330M, a superior piece of hardware. I wonder how much the difference in performance is when you take into account that OSX doesn't use DirectX?

[citation][nom]smeker[/nom]Lexus is the luxury branch of Toyota.. They are more expensive not because of the logo but the built quality.[/citation]

you can look at the specs and it is a 5470 in the dell. yeah, it's not a very impressive vid card and it is slower than the nvidia 320m in the mac, but when would you ever notice this unless you're playing games (which obviously you wouldn't do on a mac). But true, it isn't an apples to apples comparison.

I personally like the high price of Apple products. It makes me feel better about how much money I save when building my own systems.

Do you like Apples?

I spent $500 less and it's still twice as fast as what you got.

How do you like them apples?

[citation][nom]smeker[/nom]Its interesting there is nothing about built quality. Both Toyota and Lexus cars have wheels, doors, seats, and engine but Lexus is Lexus.Salute![/citation]

Actually Lexis is Toyota's premium brand. Just like Cadillac is GM's premium car. under the hood its stll a GM. under the hood the lexis is still a Toyota. just like under the hood of the apple its still an intel.

That's why if you step up to something like Alfa Romeo, under the hood you can get a Maserati. A lot of people fawn over BMW, Benz, Lexus, Infiniti but realistically.. you aren't getting a Ferrari or Maserati..or a Bentley.

What are you talking about? For example, the Cambridge, Ontario plant manufactures both Lexus and Toyota. They're made in the same place. Do you think that when a Toyota rolls across the assembly line the workers/robots take a quality nap but put a little extra effort into a Lexus when it comes along?
