dell vostro 200 computer not booting from dvd??

I recently bought a dell vostro 200 computer from some guy with an extra 1GB of memory and no hard drive. I cleaned it out changed the power supply and added a new 80gb hardrive. I was about to install windows 7 on the computer using the dvd but it won't load for some reason. It showed it was available and was connect but didn't boot. I tried looking for a solution online and came across a guy changing the boot secure to disable and some UEFI stuff.It was already on disable but there wasn't an option to change it from UEFI to legasy. Could be no bios update if so how do l do it or is the dvd drive dead?

Did you go into the BIOS Setup and change the Boot Device order so the DVD is before the HDD. You could also try switching which SATA port the HDD and DVD are on. They may not all be enabled.

Yes l did change it in order but l haven't switched the sata ports let me try that now

I just changed the ports still no difference. Then l changed the hard drive to one 1000gb with windows 10 to see if the other 80gb hard dive was the problem. No difference again same error

if you can get a Linux live DVD. or download one it should boot from the DVD in trial mode with no HDD connected. if that doesn't work then I think you have a dead PC.

Run BIOS setup (reboot and press F2) and look for the SATA Mode setting. Change it to IDE. Save the change, put the Windows CD in the optical drive and exit setup. It should boot from the CD.

I just wanted to check if the computer will open its dvd before l go and get a new one but now it refuses to open its dvd Great

Why not use a USB?

You can download the Win 7 ISO from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows7
Use it to create a USB and see if PC will boot from it instead? Saves buying a DVD drive.
