I have a Dell Vostro 2420 Laptop that I purchased may 2013 with an i3-2348M @ 2.3ghz, 4gb RAM, 64-bit win 8.1.

The machine runs very slow. I suspect an SSD and maybe 8GB or even 16GB of ram might be the fix to get it running a lot faster?

Or is the CPU/mobo the main limiting factor here and is it not worth it to upgrade?

Hi
My name is Rohan and I work for Dell.
The system is designed in such a way that it should provide you optimal performance in normal use. There might me a few reasons it might be running slow like some applications that take up the startup time. Or disks in the drive that run while you are using the computer etc.
However if you are planning on upgrading the memory. You can use a Maximum of 8GB memory on your laptop. Please make sure that they are of the below frequency.

DDR3 1333 MHz or 1600MHz

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you need any more help.

Rohan, does the 2420 come with one slot used with a single 4gb module, or are both slots being used with two 2GB modules? trying to decide if I need to purchase two 4gb modules or a single 4gb modules to update to 8gb.

Hi paradigmGT ,
Sorry for the delay. It comes with 2 slots. But the number of memory modules differ in each case. You might have have to open up the back cover and check it before placing order for new memory
