Question Dell vostro 260 compatible ram

I recently bought a second hand dell vostro 260, I attempted to boot it with left over Kingston hyper x Blu 4x2gb memory kit to no avail, the pc would turn on but wouldn't display anything. I've skimmed over some threads on the internet about crucial ram and have checked out their website but I'm not really too enthusiastic about buying ram the same price as the pc. Hoping someone can link me to cheaper/compatible ram for the system.

Your system has 2 dimm slots, supports up to 8gb of DDR3 memory. The only problem is that it can support memory of maximum 1333mhz. This should work just fine.

That's odd, the kingston ddr3 memory I tried out was also 1333mhz and the pc simply refused to boot or display anything any idea why that might be? Everything is connected correctly and the pc will boot just fine with the ram it came with.
