I have a Dell Vostro 3400 laptop. OS is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
The CD/DVD drive isn't "working." Disc spins but isn't read. System doesn't seem to even detect a CD/DVD drive.
This is what I see under Device Manager in the status tab of the CD-rom: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".
The original configuration specs for my particular computer list "Hitachi-LG Data Storage DVD±RW 8 12.7 SATA" (part #H8M5R).
I think I need to download the driver (firmware?), uninstall current (corrupted) files, and install the downloaded file. Is this correct? I can't seem to find the right file in searches on Dell, Windows, or Hitachi sites. I am afraid I might pick the wrong file. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
