Hey guys, so one of my friends is trying to throw together a cheap gaming rig so he can play Steam etc with me and his friends. Recently I saw a vid on Tech Deals (youtube channel) where he touted that an excellent budget option is to buy a used Dell Vostro 460 and slap in some new parts. Here is the vostro specs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Vostro-460-Intel-i5-2400-Core-3-10GHZ-320-GB-HD-4-GB-Ram-Windows-7-PRO-/122177056301?hash=item1c7251ee2d:g:M-wAAOSwOyJX9fBv

Operating System: Windows 7 Model: Vostro 460
Screen Size:None MPN: bvctg4b2
Form Factor: Tower Processor Speed: 1 GHz
Storage Type: HDD (Hard Disk Drive) Memory: 4 GB
Processor Type:Intel Core i5-2400 Quad Core Hard Drive Capacity: 604 GB
Graphics Processing Type: Dedicated Graphics Type: PC Desktop
Operating System Edition: Professional Product Line: Vostro
Hardware Connectivity: USB 2.0

The basic idea is we bin the hard drive for a 250 gb samsung evo and pop in my old 670 or a new GPU of his choice. (Obviously I suggested the 1060). The only concern I have, is if the RAM is up-gradable to 8 gigs or not? Tech Deals certainly made it seem like a no nonsense option, what do you guys think?

Solution
I have an old Vostro 420 that is currently a media server, previously a gaming rig. It has 8 gigs of DDR2 if that helps, officially it only supports 4 gigs. Also replace the PSU with one that will support your GPU of choice.
