HI,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15z (5530). I just did a factory reset back to Windows 8.0. I then did all of the Windows 8 updates and everything worked fine. Each time I rebooted, the wireless network automatically connected and I was able to proceed.

Remember - the wireless card worked fine on W8. I download all of the updates and W8.1 using the wireless connection. Each time I re-booted, it would automatically connect to the wireless network. I then loaded W 8.1 and now the wireless auto connection will not longer work. And when I manually connect to the wireless network, I get the message "Limited connectivity". However, even with this message, I have full internet access. The wired ethernet connection works without any problem. I have gone to the Dell website and downloaded the W8.1 drivers for:

  • Intell chip set
    Wired network card
    Wireless network card
    Video

I have also

  • Downloaded the last BIOS update, but my computer already had this version of the BIOS.
Gone to the Intel webiste to download the latest drivers from them but that did not do any good.
Uinstalled the devices via the Device manager, but W8.1 did not ask if I wanted to uninstall the software.
Reboot the cable modem and my router. But remember, this was working find on W8.

I am not using a proxy and the wireless was working fine on W8.

I tried talking to Dell, but the machine is out of warranty. Their suggestions were let their tech download the driver and the BIOS, which I had already done before I called them.

What should I try next?

Check all the available wireless networks and locate your network. Highlight your network and select 'Disconnect" - then select your network again and select 'Connect' - this is what I have to do occasionally (once or twice a month) and things are fine. Restart will also help.

Sir,

Thank you for your answer. But I have already tried what you suggested. The was the first thing I did. And it did not help.

I have rebooted the system many time in the last 10 hours while working on this problem That did not help either.

However, I just found the problem.

I just happened to noticed the Intel Wireless Manager icon in the task bar tray. So I clicked on the Intel Wireless Manager icon and noticed that it could not find any wireless networks.

There as an option to "Not start Intel Wireless Manager when Windows starts" and I checked that box. Then I re-boot my machine. This time, the laptop automatically connected to the wireless network and everything is working fine. So simply stopping the Intel Wireless Manager from working fixed the problem.

I responded to this via the wireless connection. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
