Hello, All!

Anyone here know if the subject is the same WP12 as the full WP12 retail
package... i.e. same service packs, etc.?

I've got wp12 retail and just bought new computer with the productivity pack
on it and was wondering if there was a need to replace it to get 'full
blown' wp12.

Thanks.

Colonel Blip.

Go to:

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/featured_desktop4?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

[TinyURL = http://tinyurl.com/6a2sm ]

And click on the leetle question mark icon on the "Productivity
Software" item that features "Word Perfect Powerful Word
Processing".

In the resulting pop-up window you can find that this package
includes:

- WordPerfect®
- Quattro Pro®
- PresentationsTM
- Corel Address Book
- Pocket OxfordTM English Dictionary

Then, go to:

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel2/Products/Home&pid=1047022958453

[TinyURL = http://tinyurl.com/4s3ob ]

Where you will find a list of features in the commercial version.
It matches the above list from the Dell pages.

I admit to being a bit baffled. I have the WP Office 2000 suite
[WP 9, QP 9, etc., vice the current WP 12, QP 12, etc versions],
which corresponded to the MS Office Professional version that
includes the Access data base program, and WP 2000 Pro included
the Paradox data base program. I could find no mention of it at
all on the Word Perfect Office Suite sections of the Corel web
site. Apparently it has gone away.

[Certainly doesn't surprise me. I never used it myself, nor met
anyone that ever did. Most of my clients that use the
WordPerfect suite have stuck with dBase forever.]

So it sounds like you have the complete package, save checking
the Corel website for any interim patches since the Dell OEM set
was configured.

In the past, at least through WP 11 Productivity Pack, the service packs
have definitely NOT been the same. Corel would come out with a sp but
only for their retail version while those with the OEM Dell version
would have to wait a month or two for their version. You can ask your
question on the Corel website in its forum for WP12.

Re: your comment about Paradox. It is available. I had to ask for it. They
do not include it in the normal distribution. I beta tested for them so I
hope this comment is true for the retail customer.

Thanks.

Following up on my previous reply, here are all of the apps in the various
packages:

I had the Pro version but had to ask for Paradox; no doubt the retail box ha
s it.

Thanks.

Thanks, Colonel Blip. I wandered around the website a bit, but
couldn't find the WP package that includes Paradox at all. Sigh.

I admit to being seduced, somewhat, to the Dark Side, in that I
now use Excel vice my old standby Lotus [have their suite also -
have to for my consulting work, but use it rarely, not many
clients have gone that way], and Access for data base work vice
dBase [although I still have a copy available for some of our old
data bases]. Although I do use [and am comfortable in] Word
when needed, I still prefer to use WordPerfect for my own stuff.
Old dogs on that one, I guess. Fortunately, never needed
[knocking madly on wood] to go beyond WP 9, so far at least.

Hmmm. Verrry Interesting. But ...

When I got my D4400 in 2002, I asked for MS Office XP Pro vice
the MS Works that was then the "productivity package". It has
always updated with service pack directly from MS. Dunno whether
that was a function of the fact that I had it installed
"special", or if the change was made with the changeover from MS
to Corel for their productivity package.

I've moved to wp11 on w2k and wp12 on xp having skipped 9 and 10. Like you,
I use WP for my work but use Word enough to get around just fine in it when
I need to.

Thanks.

It's due to how Corel treats its OEM productivity packs--seems to
consider them to be a cut below their retail versions.
