On behalf of my other post I also have a Dell XPS 400 with a strange issue I've never encountered. The system works normally until I unplug it and plug it back in where it displays nothing on screen and gives an error code on the front panel. I do not remember the sequence but I remember that it was about bad ram, which the system I know for sure has good ram. I then unplug everything connected to and inside the machine, turn it on and off, then plug everything back in and it works as normal. I am just confused as to why it does it since everything works on it.

Have you replaced motherboard battery.

Or better as well the power supply and at least blew it out.

Those Dell XPS 400 and up to the DELL OPTIPLEX 745's I had the same issue. My fix pull battery wait 5 min replace battery. Boom start up and like you dead again if unplugged for a long period of time. Rinse a repeat when needed.

I currently use an Optiplex 745 as my main computer and I've never had that problem before, only with the XPS 400. And yes I can confirm that I did replace the CMOS battery, but I didn't replace the power supply.

The thing is, I got it about a month ago and it was practically brand new, unused, and pretty clean, it just has that problem.

I really liked my DELL OPTIPLEX 745. I modded the bottom 1/2 length PCI-E slot so I could use a Nvidia 8800Gt in the machine. Dell put the CPU cooler in the way of the 16x's PCI-E slot so a larger card would not fit. Enjoy

But as far as the 400 goes see if a power supply fixes you.

The thing is I really don't know how I could get the power supply out, plus, I don't have any others that would reach everything in the case. So I pretty much have to stick with my method of getting it to work.
