Dell XPS 430 with GeForce card

Hi all,

I just bought a Dell XPS 430 and need to replace the graphics card (ATI Radeon 3650 HD) because it only has one DVI port.

I was looking at the GeForce GTS 250 but I think it's going to be way too big to fit in the chassis.

My friend has an extra eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTX acs3 edition. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this will a) fit in the xps 430 chassis, and b) if the power supply will be ample enough to support it.

I would be reluctant to put such a large, power hungry card in there.
Open the case and tell us which PSU you have, the Dell site shows two 375W and 425W.

The 375w model has 30A on the 12v rails, enough for either card you list, although it only has one 6-pin PCIe power connector. And the 8800GTX should fit in the chassis. I have a Precision T3400 (uses the same core chassis as the XPS 430) and I had a GTX 260 in there with no problems with space or airflow.

@ ct1615: O.K. Dell give different info on different pages...HAH!

@ Wellhelloo:Can you check the rating label? We are mainly interested in the +12v amps, rather than the Wattage.

Edit: Carver got there first with the amps!

There's enough power but I'd suggest the GTS250, it uses less juice, runs cooler and most only need a single PCI-E connector.

It says +12VA on it. Hmmm...is there some kind of instruction manual online that explains how to remove this plastic thing in front of the video card?

EDIT: Is it the top blue tab? I tried pressing down on it but it didn't seem to do anything.

If you are referring to the blue retaining bracket, push down on the top piece (small flap) and pull the blue bracket toward you. It should swing down. You may have to push hard on the flap as this piece can be a bit tricky to undo.
