Dell xps 8300 at 750$ vs pre-built

I see the deals on dell website and it shows dell xps 8300 at 750 with taxes. The configuration is

Intel® Quad CoreTM i7-2600
Intel® H-67
500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
DVD+/-RW (Standard)
Nvidia® Geforce® GT530

I was planning on building my system with i7 on it. i7 costs around 300$. So if I build a system (with these specifications), I guess it should end up with the same cost as Dell. Is it true or am I missing something. is the intel h67 cheap one? or is it really a good deal worth buying.

why would they have h67 mobo (onboard graphics?) with gt530? no point getting gt530, might as well run integrated graphics or spend a bit more and get a proper graphics card. 500gb HD is small for todays standards. seems like dell just gets all the obsolete overstock parts and builds computers using them.

BTW: i5 2500/2500k is similar performance to i7 2700 and $100 cheaper unless you need the hyperthreading.

seriously just BYO. you can pick parts to suit your requirements. if you tell us what you will be using the pc for, people can give part/build recommendations.

I got tired of building my own computer and started buying dells about 8 years ago. I bought an XPS 8300 right before Christmas and I absolutely love it. With the deals going on at the time I was able to get the specs you are quoting for $650 (pre-tax).

A friend of mine who is big into building his own systems had a used GTX 275 he was no longer using and gave it to me, so now I can run games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 very nicely.

Personally, I would definitely recommend the XPS 8300, if you can find the right price and you don't feel like jumping through the hoops of building your own machine.

I will add that on the down side, you get what you pay for. The PSU is 460 watt, and there is only one slot for video cards, but for me, this is not a big deal.

I agree,

IMO AMD is the way to go, and depending on how much you want to spend you could even get the new Amd GPU
