I have a dell xps 8300, want to upgrade graphics card to gigabyte r9 290x by using enermax naxn 750 power supply.
but when it's installed, how come there's no display, what's the cause?

Sandy Bridge CPU.....UEFI could be an issue.....

Let's start with easier troubleshooting steps:
  • Have you checked the BIOS settings to make sure auto or discrete graphics is the default adapter?
  • Did you plug the monitor cable into the 290X, or into the motherboard?

It is super common for Dell to BIOS lock their computers to only the GPU offered as upgrades or options to the specific model.

I had one of these with the i7 2600 and the highest performing GPU for it was along the lines of HD 6xxx IIRC.

looks like Dell locked BIOS for high series graphics,
and there is no latest BIOS update for XPS 8300 just stuck on version A06.
