Greetings to you all,

I've had a dell XPS 8700 for two years already, and its graphic card isn't too actual at the moment (Gtx 745).

I researched quite a lot about possible upgrades that wouldn't be too expensive (less than 300 euros) and found 2 possible winners: GTX 970 and RX 480. Both of them offer pretty similar features/benchmarks.

The thing is, I only have a prebuilt 460w Dell PSU (with unknown connectors) that doesn't meet the minimum requirements of both suggested GPU (500w is the minimum recommended).

I know that these requirements aren't always that specific and let room for some lower wattage, but considering my build with a Intel core i7-4790 3.6GHz CPU and running on a 64 bit Win 10, I'm afraid that it might be too risky. I don't mind changing the PSU for something under 70 euros, but I'm not sure I have enough room for it. Same for the graphic card.

So First question, is my 460w enough for one of these cards ?

Is the rx 480 compatible with the current BIOS of the XPS 8700?

Here are some pictures of the PSU and GPU room ( to show how little room I have to change either of them).

I know that I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm trying to be as complete as possible.

Thank you for your help

And do you think any 600w power supply fits the space covered by the current one ? ( max 15-16 cm long)

And in regards of the connectors, do you know if there's any specifications ? I've seen a free 6 pin connector cable lying in the case.
