Hi,

I have been having a problem with my video card installed in my dell XPS 8700 desktop. Its an AMD Radeon R9 270 2 GB DDR5. The fan of the video card makes loud noise plus after i log in to windows 10 and i open google chrome the screen starts flickering then it gives me a white stripes. Is it a video card problem or it could be sth else.

Also i would like to know if the GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti Windforce OC 4GB DDR5 is compatible with my dell xps 8700 as an upgrade from the video card i have. I would very much appreciate if you can help me with this problem. Thanks in advance

I'll attach the photo of my computer screen with the white stripes i get when i try using the computer

It is indeed GPU problem.
You card had been overheated and some soldiering connections got loose.
There is one DIY method of "backing" the card in oven to fix it, the fix could be permanent or temporary.
It will involve disassembling the card completely, do some heat magic and putting all back together, a little pray and everything would be fine, the question only - for how long.
First read this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/390197-33-white-lines-screen
Next https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-repair-your-Graphics-Card-by-baking-it/ It has a nice video.
And Google is your friend, as always https://www.google.com/search?q=baking+video+card+instructions&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi-6dmHo4DdAhWJGnwKHehfC3MQ_AUICygC&biw=1920&bih=1018

Good luck.

P.S. GTX 1050TI is inferior to RX 270 in gaming, just so you know.

The 270 is basically an overclocked HD 7850, so the 1050 Ti is faster than it. An HD 7970, or it's derivatives like the 280x, would be the AMD card equivalent to the 1050 Ti. You have a Haswell CPU right? Then the 1050 Ti is compatible with it.

Thank you so much for the valuable information Kisianik & dontlistentome wrote, i will give the "backing" method a try and see what will happen. I have nth to lose since i cannot use my desktop due to the graphic card problem i mentioned. I have one last question. I need recommendation about upgrading my video card, i need a good which is compatible with my dell XPS 8700 preferably Nvidia card. I don't use it to play games mostly i use it surf the internet, use adobe photoshop & illustrator beside the basic video editing software. Thank you again for your help .

In this case GTX 1050TI is the best option, as you don't need to worry about power supply update.
Just make sure to blow dust away from inside of your case. I have a feeling that other components are near death as well.
I just helped my friends with PC killed by dust. They did not have video card installed, so DUST killed CPU fan and overheated hard drive (the highest temp registered on HDD was 67C, that is the real killer, I barely was able to extract DATA from this HDD, and it died right after extraction, just stopped spinning)

So beware of PC location (for air circulation) and its cleanliness.

I vacuum my PCs at least once a month (open the case and blow compressed air inside and suck all lifted dust with vacuum), and at least once a year I am removing Video card and blow dust from it with compressed air, the same treatment goes for CPU heatsink (I am not removing it, but use plenty of compressed air to clean it).
I lost some PC components due to overheat long time ago and I learned my lesson.

One tip: You can get a cheap camera lens cleaning kit that contains a tool to blow dust off lenses. It's kind of a squeeze ball that has a open tip to direct the air. That's what I use to blow out dust from my fans and components. There are two advantages to this method. It never runs out, since it's just air and you are doing the work. And no chemicals are involved or fumes are created, so the worst you have to worry about is breathing in the dust.

I will go with the GTX 1050TI, just like you said i don't have to worry about upgrading the power supply. Yes you are right about the dust issue, i do my best to keep the case away from any dust source, i keep it on my desk and i make sure the surrounding is dust free. This week i will check inside the case and see if their is any dust to blow and follow the valuable tips you gave me. Again thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it. Have a good day.
