Dell XPS 8700 graphics upgrade

Currently own a Dell xps 8700 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s). I'm confused as to what components are compatible with my pc.

The 4790 is on the Z97 platform. However, that chipset is on the Z87 platform, which should not be a problem.

If I am reading this right, your model comes with 16 gigs of RAM and a GTX 645.

PSU is unknown.

First thing I would upgrade is PSU, then the GPU. After this, an SSD would be a good upgrade. Later on, you can get a 2nd hand 4790k to pair with that chipset so that you can overclock.
