I recently purchased a Dell XPS 8700 desktop to replace my dead Studio XPS 9100. Less than a year ago, when my 9100 was still working, I upgraded the GPU to a GTX 780 card, and the PSU to a EVGA NEX750G unit. My plan was to swap these components into my new pc. I discovered, however, that the PSU is simply too large to fit in the chassis.
Therefore, sadly, it seems I need a new PSU. It needs to be compatible with the GTX 780 3gb card and with the XPS 8700. Furthermore, it probably shouldn’t be much more than 6 inches in length.
I was thinking of getting the Corsair CX750M, then I saw this forum post: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19616091 I don’t understand those numbers but I guess that PSU is out.
I should add that the CPU connector on the pc is 4 pin rather than 8 pin. I don't know if that is relevant but I thought I should mention it just in case.
Can anyone suggest a PSU that WILL work?
