Hi!
I was thinking of buying Dell XpS-17( 9710) but I am confused with which variant should I go. I currently own dell XPS 15 2017 model.

Usage:-

Adobe premiere Pro for my youtube channel taken on Go Pro(4k) and canon R6(4k). Length of video clip is usually 3-4 mins.. with minimum graphics.was planning for i7.. 32gb GTX3050....
Confused if I should go with i9 ..64gb ram and GTX 3060 ..

I have a 9710 with the 3060 and i9-11980HK, but the laptop doesn't draw enough power to fully utilize both simultaneously. According to UserBenchmark, the i9-11980HK is only five percent faster than the i7-11800H, which is $300 cheaper (and $200 cheaper than the i9-11900H).

The 3060 is $200 more than the 3050, but is twice as fast according to UserBenchmark. (That comparison is between the 3060 and 3050 Ti since the 3050 isn't listed. Also, the 3050 has only 4GB of VRAM, whereas the 3060 has 6GB. The 3050 is fast with 4K video editing, but the 3060 should be even faster.

The i9 almost certainly isn't worth the additional cost for you, but the 3060 might be, especially as a long-term investment. I recommend the i7 and 3060.

For memory and storage, get the minimum allowed with the i7 (16GB and 512GB) and add better components yourself. Here's a video guide to opening the XPS and installing your own parts. The WD_Black SN850 is the fastest M.2 2280 SSD available today, or you can save money with a slower drive like the Inland Platinum. As for RAM, I'm not sure what's best, but the reviewer I linked used this 2666MHz 64GB Mushkin kit. The 9710 can use RAM only up to 1.2V, so any 1.35V RAM won't work or will downclock, by the way. This redditor said 64GB is much faster than 32GB RAM for 4K video editing, so I'd go with 64.

Lastly, I have the UHD+ screen and strongly recommend it over the FHD+ option, especially since you're editing 4K video. The UHD+ screen drains the battery faster, but it also looks much better, with far more vibrant and accurate colors. It is absolutely worth the $400 premium.

If I am looking at the right product page, the only GPU offered in that Dell rig is a 2060 6GB.i7 10875H is the only processor listed as well. The only configurable hardware I can see is RAM and storage.

Dell XPS 17 Laptop | Dell USA

Is this the one you are looking at?

That's last year's model, the 9700. The 9710 internal refresh, released last month, offers significantly more powerful and efficient Intel Tiger Lake CPUs and Nvidia Ampere GPUs.

No check from dell.com..

Did you see my reply above? I recommend the i7 and 3060. The i9 is at best a negligible upgrade from the i7, but the 3060 is a significant upgrade from the 3050 and has 2GB more VRAM. Choose the UHD+ screen since it will help tremendously with 4K video editing. I also recommend that you get the minimum 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage so that you can either save money by adding your own, or spend more and get better DIMMs, such as a WD_BLACK SN850, the fastest M.2 SSD available.
