Dell XPS420 - Sound Card - Only Speakers Recognized

I am having some issues with getting my PC to recognize a Mic. The speakers work fine, but for some reason the computer is acting like it doesn't even have a Mic jack on it. I have tried uninstalling and rebooting ... going to the Dell Manufacturing site and checking that the drivers are up-to-date ... and I am having minimal luck. Any tips pushing me forward would be great.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9450

Managed to fix it.

I rebooted my machine, went into BIOS.
I turned OFF the On Board Sound Card.

I booted back into Windows.
I went to device manager and uninstalled all sound devices.

I rebooted my machine, went into BIOS.
I turned ON the On Board Sound Card.
I turned OFF Quick Boot.

I booted back into Windows.
Windows finally found and installed the right drivers correctly.

Works magically.
