I have Dell XPS 8930 Desktop which has Intel Z-370 mother board and Intel I7-8700(6 Core Processor). It supports DDR4 2666 MHz Desktop RAM. It came with 4 X 8GB. I wanted to upgrade. If i put the memory configuration like 8, 8, 16 and 16 i.e. total of 48 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz Desktop RAM - will it work? Do you see any potential issues?

It has 4 memory slots and maximum memory possible is 64GB. What if I have only two slots occupied i.e. 2 X 16GB(total of 32GB RAM)?

And I am planning to purchase these RAM modules:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXN1E9U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AAQGGA3IAV1C8&psc=1

Are they compatible with my current one?
According to crucial memory scan this is the compatible with my system:
DDR4 PC4-25600 • 16-18-18 • Dual Ranked • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-3200 • 1.35V •

Solution
The amazon link is for the 2666MHz and the Crucial link is for the 3400MHz.

Choose one speed for better compatibility. Not recommended to mix two different speeds, even though it will downclock to work.

Install the 16GB sticks first followed by the 8GB sticks if mixing different sizes. You can install in one or two or three or four slots. But best to install in pairs.

Solution

You are right - I am not going to mix and match...it works at the lowest speed...as my 8GB RAM modules are at 2666 MHz modules...i should buy the ones at 2666 MHz only...this is the home based desktop...not some mission critical server...so can go cheap also...the one at amazon is somewhat cheap also.
