the negatives of buying refurbished (direct from dell) instead of new are
these:
-14 day (from ship date) return policy vs. 30 day when purchased new
-configuration limited to what is offered vs. a configuration that you pick
and choose
-price (surprisingly, not always less than new. on occasion more than new,
and other times good deals)
as for the condition of the refurbished systems they are indistinguishable
from new other than being marked refurbished.

This is the goofiest part of the refurb site. From your filter results, you
have to click on every single system link to see the details of the hardware
and software. Once in a while you'll see a system with monsterously
expensive software included with it.
