Delta DPS-650LB server repurposed for gaming rig?

Hello, so I've got a Delta DPS-650LB workstation/server psu that I'd like to mod to use as a gaming rig psu.
It has a total of 5x 12v+ rails @618w and combined with 5v & 3.3v at 650w total.
It has 2x 12v rails for cpu
and an additional 3x 12v rails for peripherals. What I'd like to know is if I can safely combine the 3x 12v rails together to get a combined 48amp rating so that I can run 2x HD6870 crossfired and all the rest of the peripherals.

psu specs:
12v+ cpu0 :14a
12v+ cpu1 :17.5a
(will use this to power a AMD Phenom II X4 970 oc @4.0 possibly oc @4.5 eventually. on a 8+2phase Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4​P)

+12v+D: 12.5a
+12v+B: 18a
+12v+M: 17.5a
idea is to combine these 3 rails into 1 to up the amperage.
Possible or bad idea?

Sys. specs planing to use:
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4​P
AMD Phenom II 970 @4.0 possibly @4.5 in the future. (on xigmatek dark knight Push/Pull)
Mushkin 8gig ddr3 XP3-12800
2x HD6870 (crossfired)
2x 7200rpm hds
1x E-MU 1820m soundcard on pci + 5v
1x DVDRW+
2x 120m case fans

I know delta is a great oem psu manufacture..so any ways am I in trouble doing this/stupid idea or am I safe? or should I save up for a new psu? I'd rather mod if possible to do so..(save some money)

I didn't see you mention anywhere that you are a professional electrical engineer or electrician... So I would probably avoid this practice unless you want to risk electrocution or starting a fire

I would prefer to pay 100 bucks for peace of mind, but that's just me.

What makes you think you need to combine the 3 rails?

Each Radeon HD 6870 graphics card will draw less than 13 Amps from the +12V rail during gaming depending on its brand and model and whether or not it is overclocked and by how much it is overclocked.

Each Radeon HD 6870 graphics card could draw up to possibly 15 Amps if you were to overclock the cards and run FurMark on them.

You should be able to power one graphics card from the +12VB rail and the other graphics card from the +12VM rail.

How many PCI Express supplementary power connectors come with that power supply?

It is listed as a 28amp card? now I realized they probably meant total 28a for card and cpu,mb,etc?

That's great news if they only each consume top 17a (no overclock for me on the cards btw.)

If indeed they consume less than I thought, I would run one card on +12VB:18a and the other card from +12VM:17.5a. The rest of peripherals would run on +12VD:12.5a and I should be fine correct?

Hello no i'm not an engineer, but i'm also not a clueless noob when it comes to electronics. 😀 repair all my electronics, psu's, etc..

Just wasn't sure if the idea was feasible.. Theoretically it should work.
