Currently playing an unoptimized game that only uses 1 core on my i7-4790k. I'm wondering if, for example, someone were to pursue a software such as this that only uses 1 core, for say 300+ hours at a time, would this core suffer any damage or performance loss compared to the other 3 cores?

Solution
Yes, but only barley. Windows uses core switching anyway and the other cores will still have voltage going through them, so it will not be anything noticeable. Also, if one core gets messed up the whole CPU will likely have issues so you would not be able to pin it to a specific core.

It won't do anything major to the CPU, it should still last 10 years. Don't worry.
